Reduction Fired Porcelain

A series of sculptural ceramic pieces made as part of my research ‘I hope it works/ Material Dances’ which, at a tipping point of impression and collapse, reflect a tender dance between material and maker.

Then is a series of cast, reduction fired, porcelain spheres carrying intimate impressions of my body. Pressed against my hand, shoulder, neck; between my legs, onto my back, collarbone and feet, the memory of this touch blurs with the gentle physicality of porcelain, shifted, shrinking, tearing even, in the violent flame and heat of the kiln. Now, in coolness, each inverted detail of this portrait in seven parts is an encounter with the soft embraces of forgotten, playful, exploratory acts between maker and material, held together, out of time.
